Guided Walking and Cycling Tours
Many visitors come to enjoy the Burren on foot or by bike – the quiet lanes are ideal for cycling and there are many walking trails too. There are bicycles for guests to useat the hotel and and we organise local guided cycling tours. Most of our staff have local knowledge of good walking trails and can suggest many interesting alternative walks for you to try. Or, if you’d like to be shown around in person, a knowledgeable walking guide is available for full or half day excursions. If you’d like a guided walk please let us know before your stay so we can arrange a booking for you.
The Cliffs of Moher and the Aran Islands
Standing at 250m, the Cliffs of Moher are some of the most dramatic cliffs in Europe. The area is home to many different species of wildlife including birds, dolphins and the occasional whale. The cliff-side walks have stunning views towards the Aran Islands and Conemara. Cliffs of Moher Cruises offer daily one-hour boat trips under the cliffs from Doolin and Liscannor piers. On your way back to the hotel, take the scenic coastal road to Ballyvaughan via Black Head.
The Aran Islands are located off the coast of the Burren and are well known for their traditional way of life – islanders still speak Gaelge as their first tongue – as well as their cultural and literary history. Doolin Ferries and Cliffs of Moher Cruises both operate a passenger ferry service to The Aran Islands from Doolin (10 miles from the hotel) between April and October. This is a full day’s activity with boats returning around 5pm.
Tea at Father Ted's House
It’s a little known fact that the Father Ted series was filmed in the Burren. Parochial House, Craggy Island was the house used for the series and is privately owned by Sheryl and Pat McCormack. Their family is delighted to give the public the opportunity to enjoy afternoon tea in their kitchen, complete with delicious home baking and stories of Father Ted. There's also a guided tour of the farm with its rich ancient heritage and traditions.
